Apparently, it’s been over 10 years since the TVRCC has been to Brands. So why’s that? It’s a hugely fun yet technical track, with a racing pedigree and home of many, great British Grands Prix. AND it’s inside the M25! So how come?
The main reason is the cash. Its one of the most expensive tracks in the UK and we had to fill it to balance the books. Thanks to you guys we did.
So how did the day go? Firstly the weather was terrific! Brilliant sunshine all day long made for an exciting day with the cars looking superb as the sun danced off of all those stunning tvr paint jobs. The usual briefings (with an additional one for the Rookies) were followed by the “ducks and drakes” sighting laps where first timers at Brands followed the pace car round showing the lines and turn points, also denoted by the cones. As is the norm at the TVRCC days, Instruction is FREE and many were smart enough to take up the option…several more than once, but hey! Why not.
There were a few stoppages, but generally the day went OK. The odd spin or two is fine by me. It shows that people are “pushing” their capabilities and learning the cars limits. No other cars were involved and the incidents were quickly cleared with only one or two ending up beached in the Kitty Litter! Just a quick mention here, for the Red Wedge guys. Owned jointly by two mates, each managed to put it in the gravel within the space of an hour. Time for some more tuition guys! Seriously though, this car has been to several trackdays I’ve arranged and its got to see the guys, and their car, trying hard and having fun!
Plenty of “Southerners” were there ofcourse with the locals attending in strength, but I was particularly pleased to see some familiar faces from “urp north” too (Hello to George Formby, Bernie Hartnett and his crew etc). TVRCC at Brands was too good an opportunity to miss for many and that was just as well considering the 75 cars we had to find.
A big thanks goes to Austec Racing and ACT Products for supporting the day. Both Paul (Austec) and Tim (ACT) were kind enough to support the day both financially (we couldn’t have done it at that price without them!) and in person. Both brought Stands, Kit and technical info, enabling those not on track, to chat and view some of the many upgrades and embellishments available from the guys to improve your tvr. All are proven in the field and on the “Rollers” (and many also on the track!) and enhance the drivability and performance of the cars. Thanks again guys.
Will we do it again next year? Possibly. Its a lot of cars and the novelty factor will be gone next time but I’d like to. We will be doing some Novice only evening sessions though. I have spoken to Brands and a TVRCC novice evening would be a chance for those lacking experience, to gain confidence without having to spend huge amounts and having a bit more space. So watch out for those next year.
