BNG / TVRCC Trackday Croft 2006

Full image gallery of the day can be found here Video clips can be found here

This was the first, but hopefully not the last, BNG Trackday. The main event is well known, but this year Rich Abbott (the events organiser) wanted to add a Trackday in his quest to make the BNG the tvr event of the year and as the new TVRCC Trackday Co-ordinator I want to encourage the inclusion of Trackdays with other events. This was the ideal opportunity to get things underway.

I can’t understand why the various “model/colour meets” don’t get together at a Trackday, Challenge round or Sprint meet. You still get the same get together but with the added attraction of a Motorsport event to watch and get to know the competitors and cars. I hope to see a lot more of this where possible.

Anyway, it was a perfect day on track. The weather had been “dubious” to say the least over the weekend, and we were preying that the forecasts were correct as they promised surprisingly good conditions. Fortunately they were, and a warm day with a light breeze gave a top backdrop for around 50 tvrs over a wide variety of models.

Dreamstyle had sponsored the day as the local Dealer, bringing several cars and customers to enjoy the day. They had wanted to bring more, but they had the busiest Monday ever at the Dealership, probably bought on by all their hard work over the BNG weekend, so they had to keep popping back and forth and didn’t get as much track time as they’d have liked. Still, a big thanks goes out to them, as they made this 1st BNG/TVRCC/Drivestyle day possible.

There were no casualties on the day, only a couple of minor excursions across the grass requiring no embarrassing recovery, so a big thanks to all. I personally was very impressed with Croft. It was my first time out there and though I’d heard a lot of good things I was concerned about the lack of gradient. It turned out to be a fantastic track for tvrs as it has a bit of everything really. A couple of very fast sections, a hairpin and even a complex or two where a lot of time can be found. I had a great time chasing the Sagaris of Tony Abrams of Hexham horseless. He has a great knowledge of the track and though I was working hard I couldn’t get past him. There’s footage of these laps in the video gallery as well as more images in the pics section, so check them out.

All the best for now, only a couple of weeks now to Spa and the Nurburgring. Can’t wait! And there is some stuff planned for the winter months, so keep your eye on the calendar!
