This one is a little Gem and a personal favourite of mine. Those who have been nearly always return…or wish they could! Just to the north west of Dijon in the heart of rural France and surrounded by open fields and chateaus, Dijon-Prenios is set over three hills and the valley between them.
You enter the track at the end of the long and very fast main straight cutting over to the left as soon as possible to enter the “Double Droite de Villeroy”. This is a very fast right-handed double apex corner, which rises at the apex and then drops away as you head into the Esses -“S des Sablieres”. Here you also rise and fall with the car constantly moving on the suspension as you drop down into the valley at “Gauche de la Britelle” so its hard on the brakes! Swinging out to the right carrying all the speed you can its hard on the throttle to the “Paraboliique”. Stay on the left and go as late as you can as the “Parabolique” is a hairpin which rises 30m on the exit! Turn in hard and plant the throttle and the car powers out of the corner and up the hill. Too hard and you smoke the rears (and maybe spin!)…too late and it’ll bog, so blend the power and power slide up the hill and now the car goes light again as you hit the brow. If you like “Paddock Hill” at Brands and “Eau Rouge” at Spa that corner is for you…No 3 on the best corners list!
Back on the track you are fast approaching “Courbes des Georgeolles” a fairly straight forward corner allowing you to carry a lot of speed then onto “Virage des le Combe”. Here you maybe tempted in with all your speed and run off on the exit, so “slow in…fast out” and it’s hard on the gas for “Courbe de Pouas”. Again you will be tempted in, but the track falls away fast as you drop down the valley. Too fast in and you’ll have to hold off with the throttle and that’s the last thing you want as you will exit onto the main straight! A slower entry and you can wait, wait…Now you are at the apex at the bottom of the valley. The car compresses on its springs, digs in and as the straight becons, the with a short climb up the hill, its foot to the floor for the long, long straight. Power past the pits hugging the wall, so that everyone can hear your V8 roaring at full chat, before swinging to the left and braking hard for the right-hander once more. What a lap!
This is a great track for any car, but in a tvr is superb. Dijon has been the home of 6 “Grand Prix’s” including the renowned battle for second between Rene Arnoux and Gilles Villeneuve with the lead changing several times in the last two laps with both cars leaving the track several times as the two drivers banged wheels and swapped paint. If you have a great drives or 20 great GP moments…you can bet that it’s on there! A must for all Racers and Track go-ers alike, Dijon-Prenois is a must.
