Tvrmonster Griff - Racing! Part 1

With the winter “fettle” turning into a full rebuild of the engine-gearbox-diff, the fettle has turned into a minor strip for racing season. Having been asked one too many times “…it’s fast enough, why don’t you race it?” I have decided that this year, 2007, I will. The project “monster Griff” will always be a Road Racer (by that I mean that we will only be doing the minimum to qualify for racing) and will always stay road legal in the tradition of the great sprorts car racers of the 50s and 60s. It will always remain insured, Taxed & Tested and be able to drive to the circuits. The likes of Jim Clark and Graham Hill used to pick up road legal sports cars from the factory, drive them to the circuit (even Le Mans 24 hour!), race them, then drive them home…if still driveable. This was how it was done in the old days of the “Gentleman Racer” even as far back as the greats if Ferrari F1. Customer Cars, built for racing. This is what we will do, with the exception of Race Tyres fitted trackside.

So, for us this means…

1 Fit a fire system    - Going in
2 Fit a full roll cage    - Booked
3 Remove carpets (for fire regs) - Done
4 Fit battery isolator switch - Going in
5 Fit Dunlop control tyres - to do
6 Rebuild to “Group B” 350bhp (ish) - current

That’s about it for the car. I need…

1 National “B” Race Licence - Booked
2 Enter the Dunlop tvr Challenge - Done - Car 89!
3 Race suit (Hmmm, nice)  - Done
4 Race boots and gloves  - Done

As you can see from the pictures the car is on the way, and I am booked in for a Medical later this month along with the required ARDS course for my licence. I’ll keep you posted on progress as we move on.

Thanks are in order here for our Sponsors for all their help!
