Oulton Park is known as one of the best Tracks in the country, and on a beautiful sunny day on July it didn’t disappoint. Saturday was an official TVRCC Trackday is association with Easytrack.co.uk who are one of the biggest UK operators. Oulton is a spectacular track with just about everything you could wish for. Fast and slow corners, a banked Hairpin, a couple of chicanes and my personal favourite…gradient! Deerleap really is loads of fun!
After the Briefing, there was a few sighting laps for those who havn’t been before then the first session started. Being an Easytrack day, it was decided to run open pit lane which means that you can come and go on the track as you wish (so long as there is room for you). This in turn means fewer traffic jams, fewer missed sessions for stoppages and fewer pressurised driver making sure that they get their laps in!
The day ran pretty much without problems. There were a couple of spinners but no majors, and one on track recovery so lots of track time to be had. The tvrs held up pretty well, with one belt failure on a pre-serp Griff (which was back on track after lunch) and one head gasket failure on a T350 (not the first time on that car either…bad luck mate) and unfortunately the clutch slave cylinder seals went on the “Monster Griff”. This ended my day on track. First failure for around 20 trackdays!
Some familiar faces on the day as well as many new ones to me. So “Hello” to Cirks, Shorts, Targarama, Bernie (Ex-TDO), Bruce (Ex TVRCC Committee) White Chimp500 (now with Ben Samuelsons Tuscan Racer!) and many whos names I’ll get to know no doubt! It was great to see so many SP6 cars out on track. Several Tuscans including Tuscan 2s and a couple of Sagari that I have to say look spectacular on the track. Well done for getting then out there guys, after all, they were promo’d as tvrs Trackday car!
So, here’s to the next one! Brands Hatch on July 24th which will be the “Bootleg Monster” for 2006.
